Before I got going on the recent work flurry, I was involved in
corresponding with these people who can be found here:-

http://eduforge.org/wiki/wiki/eduforge/?pagename=AboutUs

and not knowing enough concerning the structure of Advacs, I thought you
people may be able to supply some relevant information.
They are Debian developers, and met/spoke with Petter Reinholtzen(sp?)
at the last Skolelinux conference.
Regards,

David.

David,

sounds very interesting! Is how modular/customizable is it? Eduforge
hosts some projects that aim to replace software that is needed in the
education sector but is proprietary and costly. NZVLE is focused on
enhancing and promoting learning management systems (LMS) -- and is
being developed by the Eduforge core team.

Student Management Systems are usually heavily customized/extended
accounting packages, and while we are at this stage looking at
interoperation with the SMS installed base, there may be interest in a
FOSS SMS.

cheers,

martin

| Hello Martin,
|
| It's currently called 'Advacs' (advanced accounting).
| It's a modular build, with the general ledger being the basic module,
| and anything else required downloadable after that. This, of course,
| allows for individual enterprise requirement, speed and stability.
|
| So far, we have the basic outline of modules required for a small
| business, i.e., general ledger, sales ledger, cashbook and purchase
| ledger. But we envisage everything else with time as well, e.g., ecommerce
| Current work happening is on internationalisation modules to cover
| individual national requirements as far as tax goes. (hint: looking for
| an N.Z. tax module, have already done advance research -
| http://www.ird.govt.nz/payrolldev/ ).
|
| Not many on the project, but what there is is quality.
| A senior developer with the postgresql project, Oliver Elphick, is
| project head.
| The project is here on Alioth:-
|
| https://alioth.debian.org/projects/advacs/
|
| And the mailing list is here:-
|

|
| Regards,
|
| David.
