[axel-users] getting multiple files from a site

Dear Users,
                      Is way to use axel to get multiple files from same
site with subdirectories
example like below.
I tried below but failed
axel -n 10
ftp://ftp.ifremer.fr/ifremer/cersat/products/gridded/mwf-quikscat/data/weekly/2009/*.zip

I understand that there is a way of using shell script and getting each
files one by one but it takes good time to connect to server for each file.
