[Bash-completion-devel] Bug#801818: bash-completion: also read host-local completions directory ‘/usr/local/share/bash-completion/completions/’

Package: bash-completion
Version: 1:2.1-4.2
Severity: wishlist

Howdy,

The ‘/usr/share/’ hierarchy is controlled by the Debian packaging
system, and is not an appropriate place for system administrators to
make host-local customisations.

The ‘/usr/local/share/’ hierarchy is conventionally a parallel
hierarchy of files specific to the host, which the Debian packaging
system is guaranteed not to modify.

Please change the reading of Bash completion files to read both
the package-controlled ‘/usr/share/bash-completion/completions/’ and
the host-local ‘/usr/local/share/bash-completion/completions/’.
