[Bootcd-user] Problems

I have:

Debian 3.1
Kernel: 2.6.12.3

I can¹t get DEVFS_FS to build something is broken in the 2.6.12.3 kernel

I would like to do a tmpfs.  I tried by downloading 2.41 and patching.

I get an error can¹t find hdc  for the root device.  I see /dev/hdc as the
kernel come up

I tried bootcd 2.48 but I got the error:
Mount unknown filesystem type devfs
devfs: not mounted
Pivot_root: no such file or directory
/sbin/init: 432: cannot open dev/console: no such file
Kernel panic ­ not syncing: Attempted to kill init?

I am having to burn each time to test.  I can¹t find the source for qemu for
Debian. 

Any help would be appreciated.
