It is a bug. Thank you for reporting it.

Next time please go ahead and file a bug report at first, instead of
contacting us privately. Having it in our Bug Tracking System makes it
accessible by all (more than a thousand!) developers instead of only the
maintainers.

I recommend using the too "reportbug" found in the Debian package by the
same name. This tool automatically includes helpful additional info like
the actual versions of dependent packages installed on your system.

This current bug is already known (at least to me). See
http://bugs.debian.org/207815

My judgement is the bug is really with cdbs and should be raised to
release-critical, but I haven't found the time yet to discuss that with
my fellow maintainers of that package. I am hereby making them aware of
it :-I
