The GPL is not very clear in this area.  But I believe that 2 (a) is
violated on a large scale, and I hope that the requirement will be
made more precise in version 3 (so that every modification must
preserve a complete and accurate copyright record, for example), or
dropped entirely (because it's unworkable in practice).
