Does this still need a workaround in sbuild or is the fixed
apt sufficient.  i.e. do we need it for building on stable or
oldstable?

The patch has two parts
- running dpkg-deb inside the chroot with fakeroot
- apt-ftparchive with fakeroot

Are both still required?

Sorry for the late response--finishing my PhD meant I'm only just
catching up on all the bugs.
