It's common practise to use a search engine and search the web for such
information and then if you don't understand something, to ask at a list
where they use the things you don't understand.
Google still seems to be the search engine providing the best results,
so https://startpage.com/ , an engine using Google, but providing better
data protection might be something you should use.
I don't know what Suse does, when they provide patches, but it seems to
be unlikely that those patches aren't complete binaries. It's possible
just to provide some kernel modules, but IMO unlikely to provide a part
of a binary application and merge it with an existing binary. But this
is a topic for a distro's list where they use rpm.
The best thing is to ask at a Suse mailing list:
http://en.opensuse.org/openSUSE:Mailing_lists
Before using the Suse mailing list it's important to read this:
http://en.opensuse.org/openSUSE:Mailing_list_netiquette
E.g.: "Another problem is that some people are subscribed to multiple
lists, and they don't appreciate multiplied email volume as that is
either more work to follow, or just more noise in the mail box."
So if you already ask something on several other mailing lists, don't
ask the same questions again. It's also common practise not to replay to
each mail, sometimes "You are welcome!", "Thank you!", "+1" is ok, but
to reply to each mail "I see", "Ok", is meant polite, because we do this
in verbal discussions, but not welcome on mailing lists.

Ralf
