DebConf, the annual international Debian conference, will be held
in Oaxtepec, Mexico, from May 14th to May 22nd 2006, with
DebCamp, a problem solving workshop, preceeding it..

I recommend the great report about last year's conference
http://media.debconf.org/dc5/index.html which illustrates nicely
the broad spectrum, quality and enthusiasm of the community at
work.

Because the Debian Project doesn't engage in commercial
activities, it depends on donations from well-wishers. A modest
amount of sponsorship would not only help Debian immensely but
would reap huge dividends in terms of goodwill in the Linux
community at large. There are a number of ways in which we could
benefit from sponsorship. A list, sorted in order from highest
priority to least, follows:

1. Travel expenses for renowned developers on a tight budget.

2. Housing will cost us around 27kUSD. We will stay in a family
hotel and 4-6 participants will share one room.

3. Hardware (borrowed) for the event. We will set up
networking and need a few (3) central servers for cpu-intensive
tasks as well as a couple (20-30?) of notebooks as well as
networking equipment (switches and accesspoints).

4. Food and beverages for the HackLab and the conference. We
plan to have more than one common dinner, since these events
provide an opportunity for the entire group to gather in a
community-building setting. We have projected food costs of
~60kUSD (formal dinner:6k, lunch:20k, breakfast and dinner: 17k
each).

5. T-shirts and towels with the Debian swirl (front) and
sponsor's logo (back) (~5kUSD).

6. One or two day trips both for developers as well as for
significant others to sights and places of interest or
recreation. (~10kUS)

Looking at the historic development of the event we have been
growing steadily, which indicates an increasing importance and
(corporate) interest:

Year People Budget
2000 Bordeaux 30? 0?
2001 Bordeaux 50? 0?
2002 Toronto 90 5k
2003 Oslo 128 25k
2004 Porto Allege 153 75k
2005 Helsinki 300 150k

This time we have 200 registered participants already, and expect
at least 300 attendees. Eventhough we have lower accommodation
costs per person in Mexico compared to Finnland, the overall
costs will be higher, since more will use the sponsored
accommodation which is of higher quality then last year.
Furthermore we already now have received almost twice the travel
support requests we had last year (80k this year vs 45kUS last
year). The resulting projected budget is around 180k USD.

As sponsorship returns we can offer your logo on

 - the conference Tshirt
 - the website
 - the food tickets
 - the conference material (conference proceedings etc)
 - the transparents
 - the full page Thanks You addvertisement in LinuxMagazines worldwide

and your name mentioned in the press releases.

If you provide your own transparents we could put them up in the
lobby, the auditoriums, the hacklab, etc. Handouts and flyers
can be put in the sleeping rooms and the conference bags. You
could even provide the conference bags with your logo on it.

Thanks in advance!
