[debhelper-devel] Regarding the new dh_update_autotools_config helper

Hi,

Is the new dh_update_autotools_config helper, added in debhelper
9.20160114, a replacement for the
dh_autotools-dev_{update,restore}config helpers, provided by the
autotools-dev package?

If so, since the new helper runs automatically, shouldn't the old ones
be marked as deprecated, maybe through a Lintian rule?
