[Debian-eeepc-devel] CPU frequency scaling fails with 2.6.24 kernel

I have done an install using the new custom installer-worked great!
I also did an upgrade this morning and got updated kernel modules
as well. However, I still am not able to determine how to get
the CPU to not run at full speed all the time. A dist-upgrade
of an older install results in this being broken under the 2.6.24
kernel as well. I have spent several hours experimenting and
searching.

I get this message at boot time:
CPUFreq Utilities: Setting ondemand CPUFreq governor...disabled, governor not
available..done

However, lsmod, shows that cpufreq_ondemand is loaded! This is confusing.
Something is not quite right in the setup for this new kernel:(

When I try to track the logic of /etc/init.d/cpufrequtils, I find that
it wants information in /sys/devices/system/cpu/cpu0/ that does not
exist! Not sure why. I recall the above message would appear under the
prior kernel, but the cpu frequency would still vary with demand! Again
a bit of confusion in sorting this out.

Thanks for any insight as we explore the cutting edge and sometimes
get cut in the process:)

                      Delbert
