Dear list,
I will probably go insane on this topic. Could you please help me with
collecting some data for comparison? See the questions below.

I did some more searching and I found [1], where it is stated that *all*
ASUS EeePC 701 4G are running at 630 MHz.
1. Could you please send me the output of
cat /proc/cpuinfo
2. The version of the BIOS. (Press F2 on start up or use dmidecode.)
3. If you use a 22 inch monitor over VGA at a resolution of 1680 * 1050,
then please attach …
a) the manufacturer and model number of your monitor,
b) your /etc/X11/xorg.conf and
c) your /var/log/Xorg.0.log and
d) what command or front end you are using to switch (xrandr).
4. More ideas, suggestions, …?
Thanks a lot for helping me. If I will not figure this out until
Thursday I will have to give the monitor back.
