I tried again, actually if I disable "quick boot" in the bios, and
then select the USB key from the menu that appears pressing Esc at
boot time it works. I dont' know why I can't just select it in the
bios.
Some glitches:

I can connect to a WPA net with nm-applet, but resolv.conf isn't
updated by DHCP.
Indeed, resolv.conf looks like this:

search nslug.ns.ca dymaxion.ca
#nameserver 24.222.19.6
nameserver 192.168.1.1
#nameserver 24.222.0.5
#nameserver 24.222.0.94
#nameserver 24.222.0.95
#nameserver 24.222.0.33
#nameserver 24.222.0.5

which is a bit weird.
# echo nameserver 192.168.0.1 > /etc/resolv.conf
lets me browse without problems.


After suspending the system doesn't wake up, hangs with power,
wireless and disk LEDs on. I didn't try hibernation,  I didn't have
room in my usb key. (Does it make sense to hibernate to a USB stick?
Writing the memory image would take ages...)


I couldn't find an evident way to set the keymap, which could be quite
annoying for a non-english user who doesn't know the US keyboard
layout (I could do it with setxkbmap from the terminal anyway, but
it's not straightforward for someone not very experienced).

The rest seemed ok, though I just had the time to try the most
prominent features.
