I also have a problem with my 16GB SDHC card in the eeepc 900 card slot. When
it boots with the card in the slot, the machine hags for about 3 minutes and
gives the following error message:

[ 129.221053] sd 3:0:0:0: [sdc] 31388672 512-byte hardware sectors (16071 MB)
[ 129.229846] sd 3:0:0:0: [sdc] Write Protect is off
[ 129.237820] sd 3:0:0:0: [sdc] Mode Sense: 03 00 00 00
[ 129.237825] sd 3:0:0:0: [sdc] Assuming drive cache: write through
[ 129.252234] sd 3:0:0:0: [sdc] 31388672 512-byte hardware sectors (16071 MB)
[ 129.260337] sd 3:0:0:0: [sdc] Write Protect is off
[ 129.267951] sd 3:0:0:0: [sdc] Mode Sense: 03 00 00 00
[ 129.267956] sd 3:0:0:0: [sdc] Assuming drive cache: write through
[ 129.275622] sdc: sdc1
[ 129.340808] sd 3:0:0:0: [sdc] Result: hostbyte=DID_OK
driverbyte=DRIVER_SENSE,SUGGEST_OK
[ 129.348996] sd 3:0:0:0: [sdc] Sense Key : Hardware Error [current]
[ 129.357106] sd 3:0:0:0: [sdc] Add. Sense: Unrecovered read error
[ 129.365110] end_request: I/O error, dev sdc, sector 31388664

The numbers of sectors does not match with what the card reports when it is in
the external card reader. Also, no /dev/sdc1 exists.

However, I can login as root and "fdisk /dev/sdc", quit fdsik and then I can
see /dev/sdc1 and mount it without any further problems.

Needles to say, when I place the SDHC card in the external USB reader, I have
no problems at all with the eeepc 900.

Mateo.
