Hmm. I use 2.6.29 since it entered sid and am very happy with it. 
pciehp is gone, booting and resuming is faster, rt2860 comes with the 
kernel. 901 with BIOS 1603.

Perhaps it is worth noting that I use the Git version of 
eeepc-acpi-scripts. Another obvious difference is the BIOS version. 
I am somewhat reluctant to try the latest BIOS after your report, as 
IIRC it is not possible to downgrade later.

I hope you find solution soon.
