I see your point, but having a workaround for eeepcs only is 
a disservice to the rest of the people suffering from the problem.

A wishlist bug on udev, the kernel or even laptop-mode-tools.

Taging[1] bug(s) as affecting eee would be nice.

I agree with SynrG that eeepc-acpi-scripts shall be trimmed of 
anything that is not specific to the Eee (and even the Eee-specific 
stuff could find its place in other packages). Your patch seems like 
a step in the opposite direction.
