Per http://wiki.debian.org/DebianEeePC/Model/1005HA,

    2.6.32 and later require acpi_osi="!Windows 2009" or
    acpi_osi="Linux" else eeepc-laptop won't be loaded.

That is, your bootloader should pass acpi_osi=Linux as an argument to
the kernel.
