Oh, it *does* have WMI then. I thought it did! Super.

Yes, I don't think we have a good solution yet for the backlight toggle.

As for vertical scrolling, that has nothing to do with
eeepc_laptop/eeepc_wmi. See http://wiki.debian.org/SynapticsTouchpad.
