Nope. Unrelated.

No. That will inhibit eeepc_wmi from being loaded, which is the correct
module for all models that support it.

Try undoing the grub.cfg workaround for the squeeze kernel which did not
yet have wmi support. Don't forget to update-grub afterwards.
