There's more to package branches than the packages themselves. Things 
like upgrade paths affecting actual setup (or perhaps even breakage) of 
configuration files...

Some codec-related packages affect gstreamer behaviour and reliability.
Possibly affects other stuff too.

Network-manager change is small but also recent, so can contain bugs.

None of above is likely to affect the concrete issue of popups in Browse 
- - just trying to prove that mixing branches is bad!

If you are interested in general, then dump a list of installed 
packages, do a fresh install from pure Lenny using that list, and 
compare the filesystems to get a better understanding of how they really 
differ.

But don't bother for debugging this issue: I really suspect that the 
error is due to Sugar relying on specifics of the environment not 
ensured by your crude minimalistic bootstrapping hack.

Perhaps environment variables, or perhaps differences in EWMH[1]
