I'm starting to remember about this...
I've reported this bug (icon-slicer failing silently if xcursorgen 
fails) to the original author (Owen Taylor), but was told we (i.e. 
SugarLabs) had taken over maintenance of the package. :)
Will start poking around again.

I.e. you want me to reassign #555963 from sugar-* to sugar-artwork-*?

IIRC this list get's CCed anyway, but might be a good idea to use the 
bug address so it's archived on bugs.debian.org as well.
