Probably because he is using the gcc4 port for amd64 hosted on 
http://debian-ppc64.alioth.debian.org/gcc4
On more that one occasion Goswin von Brederlow directed gcc4 amd64 users 
who were asking questions on debian-amd64 to the debian-ppc64 mailing list.
e.g. in this Goswin's mail from 2005-06-14:
