Yes, it used to work. The emacs-snapshot package also used to
build fine without any patch, but now emacs-snapshot fails to
build with a segmentation fault. I am not sure if the patch
has something to do with this or if some other changes cause
the problem.

I am no expert myself, but I will try to find the reason for 
the build problem.
