    Build-Depends: quilt
    
    Use quilt to handle patches to the upstream code which should go back
    upstream.  quilt is used by the XSF for Xorg packaging, I think it's a
    useful tool which seems less intrusive to debian/rules than, say,
    cdbs.
    
    Include build: patch in debian/rules.
    Add empty patches subdir to debian/.
