[xml/sgml] db2latex-xsl, please help with XSL catalogs

A quick test without an "rewriteSystem" element in the catalog file
let "xsltproc" (1.1.2-3, libxml 2.6.7-1) nevertheless find the
stylesheets (tested using option "--nonet"). 

So I conclude the additional element is not necessary?
