Welcome to OASIS News, a weekly update of announcements, accomplishments,
and activities for the international standards consortium.

CAP v1.0 Approved by OASIS Emergency Management TC
Members of the OASIS Emergency Management TC have
approved a Committee Draft specification for the "Common Alerting
Protocol Version 1.0" and have recommended its advancement for approval
by OASIS as an OASIS standard. The Common Alerting Protocol (CAP) is a
simple but general format for exchanging all-hazard emergency alerts and
public warnings
over all kinds of networks.
Members of OASIS are requested to familiarize themselves with the
specifications and give their input to their organization's voting
representative. On 16 March a Call For Vote will be sent to the voting
representatives of the OASIS member organizations; balloting will close
on 31 March.

Services Security v1.0 Approved by OASIS WSS TC
Members of the OASIS Web Services Security (WSS) TC have approved the
Committee Draft specification "Web Services Security v1.0" and have
recommended its advancement for approval
by OASIS as an OASIS Standard. The WSS 1.0 specification describes
enhancements to SOAP messaging to provide message integrity and
confidentiality. The specified mechanisms can be used to accommodate a wide
variety of security models and encryption technologies.
Members of OASIS are requested to familiarize themselves with the
specifications and give their input to their organization's voting

Symposium Updates
Adobe has joined Sun and IBM as Symposium sponsors. A variety of Symposium

The keynotes have been selected. On Monday, a major user perspective will be
offered by William Stangel, Sr.
VP and Enterprise Architect for Fidelity Investments Systems Company. On
Tuesday, Thomas Koulopoulos, President and Co-founder of the Delphi Group
will speak on 'Standards and the
Business of Uncertainty.'
Registration is required for both the Symposium and OASIS TC meetings. For
the Symposium only, a meeting fee of 465 USD (265 USD for OASIS members)
will be charged to cover the cost of facilities and meals.
