Hello,

If you feel like tagging packages is not enough for you, and you'd like
to tag just about anything, now it's your time!

Be the first to try the first release of La Comune, a very smart
repository for categorized files!  Creative storage for creative minds!

La Comune allows to manage files together with metadata which include
faceted categories (like the tags in debtags), and to publish them in a
repository which provides powerful searching facilities.

This release only provides a commandline front-end to the archive, which
is powerful but not ideal for browsing and searching.  However, in the
subversion repository you can see a web application framework being
developed as well, and I already have working prototypes of web
interfaces.

You can think of a La Comune repository as a smart file system, or a CMS
which is accessible also, but not only, using the web.

Among other things, the repository structure is conceived to allow
automatic exchange of files between different repositories, with the
potential of creating a distributed publishing framework.


Quick start instructions:
  Debtags preview APT repository:
    deb http://debtags.alioth.debian.org/debian unstable main

  Install La Comune:
    aptitude install lacomune

  Read /usr/share/doc/lacomune/QUICKSTART
