That seems hard to achieve, software cannot be bribed, can it? ;-)

Well to put it simple, as much as neccessary to find a solution that is
satisfactory to the users. However this implies that I will get feedback
from the users about the quality of the search results, which is not
easy to be accomplished... Additionally there is also the AI tagger -
where I am glad, that Hanna has offered assistance on this front :-)

As I wrote in a previous mail [1], I have implemented ranking based on
the search pattern entered and on the package distance already. I intend
to use the popcon ranking as soon as I have done some deeper
investigation on how to achieve this offline. The approach with the
"popcon update" seems to be a good way.

However I will not perform a detailed analysis on the results (like
questionairs and other "professional" stuff). Like most developers, I
will simply trust my common sense to choose a good scoring algorithm. I
will implement an alternative algorithm only if
     1. I come up with another idea
     2. someone else comes up with another idea or
     3. the users complain about bad search results.
So please go ahead and tell me good scoring ideas (which should be
relatively easy to implement :-).

Greetings Ben

@Hérve Perhaps you could repost your messages rejected during the alioth
downtime, so my answers do not hang around without any context..
