I mean to hit this problem hard, starting about six
months following sarge's release. Debram is essentially
done, except that it needs a final package list
following sarge's release; so debram is no longer
distracting me. I have undertaken to attack dselect's
bug list, and this *is* distracting me; however, I hope
to earn enough trust with the dpkg team in this way, by
contributing useful work, that the dpkg team will want
to accept our debtags-related patches in the future.

Having sorted packages nearly three years, believe me, I
do not mean to ignore this problem now. Help is on the
way.
