[Debtags-devel] Debconf5 news: Debtags in the Packages file and Alioth availability

I assume that ftpmaster is not interested in managing
the vocabulary; that AJ means to leave that job to us.
If this is correct, then the integration of Debtags into
the Packages file (and into debian/control, presumably)
is an important forward step for us.

Enrico:

> Do you see any problems?

Thank you for asking.

Any time one freezes and exports a basic interface,
naturally problems can arise. However, sooner or later
one must freeze an interface for export to the outside
world. Debtags is sufficiently mature to freeze the
basic tag format.

> Should I go on?

Provided that the relevant ftpmaster scripts accept any
tag acceptable to debtags, yes. However, we should
still retain some ability to extend the format. For
example, I foresee a need for sortable integers to be
appended to some facets or tags. For illustration only
(I am not actually trying to suggest new facets here):

  difficulty-of-use::60
  importance::to-ocaml-programmers::25

If we add such an integer capability later to debtags,
the ftpmaster scripts must not choke.

This is a positive development. The time is right.
Seize the moment, Enrico. Go on.
