There are not many applications in the archive made of Fortran, but here
is one: nec.
In general, however, you are right. Fortran is well suited only to
numerical computation. It does not handle I/O gracefully. For this
reason, it tends to be used in numerical libraries only.
I happen to use Fortran 77 frequently, but I'm an unusual case. Even I
would not try to write a full-scale application in Fortran.
