Hi Torsten,

This is exciting! Thanks for joining and welcome in!

Let me brief you (and the list) of the recent plans we (me and mornfall)
have for libdebtags. Basically, we're planning to merge it into
libapt-front.

The rationale is that all the logic is implemented using generic
programming in libtagcoll1, so that it can be reused in all sorts of
applications. libdebtags1 was only containing the thin layer that
specialises libtagcoll1 for the case of Debian packages.

Since libapt-front seems to be THE WAY of accessing Debian package
informations, the idea is to move that thin layer just inside
libapt-front. Also, libdebtags alone now only knows of package names as
strings, which isn't very useful. The 'debtags' commandline tool
needs libapt-front already.

So, there is this merge coming. I'll probably work on it tomorrow.
This could mean that you could do the bindings work on libapt-front
instead of libdebtags, and get both. Michael Vogt was interested on
python bindings for libapt-front as well, but he doesn't seem to have
the time for it right now, so you could really step in.

As for packaging, Simon Richter recently joined the comaintainance team,
and there is sure space for a third. As soon as we finished all the
rounds of refactorings (which is hopefully near the end of this week)
there will be a big round of uploads to make; that can be the
opportunity to bring the comaintainance team together.

In the meantime, everything is on svn trunks on alioth: feel free to
have a look, ask questions, and post patches as you see fit.

Ciao,

Enrico
