If you look at all the science::* tags, the idea is to make them follow
the various steps of the possible workflow of creating a scientific
paper: calculation would be the number-crunching bits.
Tag: science::calculation
Description: Calculation
Tag: science::modelling
Description: Modelling
Tag: science::data-acquisition
Description: Data acquisition
Tag: science::plotting
Description: Plotting
Tag: science::bibliography
Description: Bibliography
Tag: science::publishing
Description: Publishing
Tag: science::visualisation
Description: Visualization
This is an idea that allows to support at least a number of common
practical tasks in the life of scientists. It doesn't cover them all,
and it's not very fine grained, but any of these tags will bring the
package list down from 20000 to (guessing) like 200/300, and then one
can refine further using the other tags: add interface::* and role::*
and you ought to get down to (guessing) 20 or so, which is a perfectly
reasonable number of packages to read sequentially.
Ciao,
Enrico
