This does not happen for me when I try (using ‘devscripts/2.16.13’).

The ‘fg’ command simply resumes the MUA (in my case, ‘mutt’) as expected.

Can you try reproducing this:

* With the current ‘devscripts’ version?

* Using each of Zsh and Bash?

* Using a different MUA?
