Hello everyone, Could any of the german-speaking people enligthen me on the meaning of the two articles above, please? The general idea would be enough (the DWN is a bit terse to me). My German lessons are way too old for me to understand them correctly. Viel Dank! By "two articles" you mean http://www.linux-community.de/Neues/story?storyid=12819 and http://www.linuxnewmedia.de/presse ? Here we go (translated by paragraph): http://www.linux-community.de/Neues/story?storyid=12819 Gestern erhielt ich die neuste Ausgabe des Linux-Magazins. He found the advertisement by Microsoft in Linux Magazin. "this proves that Microsoft sees Linux as real competitor in the server market" Nun bin ich geteilter Meinung, ob man als Linux-Verlag solche Anzeigen annehmen sollte. He talks about the dependence of the magazines from the advertisement buyers and the implication of this to this specific ad. Should such ads be rejected normally? The money will be donated to Debian (this is written in the editorial). He applaudes. But donating the money can not be a long-term solution, the magazines live from the money earned trough selling ads... He ask for the opinion of the readers if Linux magazines should regulary accept ads by Microsoft or if this should be a single, special incident as indicated by donating the money. http://www.linuxnewmedia.de/presse Microsoft wirbt im Linux-Magazin Oder: Goliath schenkt David eine Schleuder Heute erscheint die neue Ausgabe des renommierten Linux-Magazins, und die IT-Szene wird verblüfft sein: Die Leser finden dort eine Anzeige von Microsoft, mit der der Software-Gigant höchst seriös seine Produkte für Server bewirbt. The new issue of Linux-Magazin will contain a serious advertisement by Microsoft which is rather unusual given the hot flamewars between Microsoft and the Open Source community. "this is not a April fools prank but a serious contest with Free Software aiming at the professional readership of Linux-Magzin." "Linux-Magazin will donate the revenue from this advertisement to the Debian project, a Open Source community that develops a Linux-based operating system" hth, -- Frank LichtenheldIndirect Donation from Redmond. Hi Fr=E9d=E9ric, let's first explain Microsofts advertisement in "Linux Magazin", page 37. There's a large picture of a smiling man who updated 10.000 PCs in 10 minutes using the newest application. The German text is: "Herr 5.000 PCs in 10 Minuten upgedated mit der neuesten Anwendung" which seems to be incorrect (the name of the person is missing, or "Herr" is bogus) ("Mr. 5.000 PCs updated in 10 min using newest application"). The rest of this page: *********************************** "We performed in 2002 more than 807.000 software implementations on 65.000 desktops. So we saved more than 247.000 working hours." Steven Bramson, Motorola Motorola uses Windows Server System to simplify IT management. Management Server based on SQL and Windows server is used by Motorola on more than 65.000 desktops. See microsoft.com/germany/wssystem Microsoft Windows Server System *********************************** The first article asks whether a Linux publisher should accept such advertisements and contains that the money is donated to Debian. The second article: It's not a April, 1st joke, it's a really serious advertisement instead of one of the usual flame wars. I hope it helps Jens From joey@infodrom.org Tue Apr 6 07:42:38 2004 From: joey@infodrom.org (Martin Schulze) Date: Tue, 6 Apr 2004 08:42:38 +0200 Subject: [Dwn-trans-english] Re: Yay!
