Are you sure that this is appropriate? Most probably I wouldn't really care if
it happened, because I have a proper backup-structure and CVS in place, but this
might not be true for everyone else...

IMHO, we must either ask 
- before installing the package, using debconf (and default to "no")
- or just before the "rm -rf" (and again default to "no").

Is there any Debian-policy that requires the removal of those files? Of course,
they were copied automatically, but then we must also check if the directory is
unchanged by using some kind of hashing, just like conffiles.
