OK, thanks - this was the clue I needed.

Sadly it's not quite that simple as the wx debian/rules is insanely
complex.  I think unnecessarily so in many places, and it's just a
result of a lot of different people working on it in a mostly serial
fashion over the years.

But I've removed the part which installs headers for wxPython by
copying them from the source tree and instead got it to pick up
installed copies of these and the SWIG stuff which were being
ignored, and debdiff shows the files you want and nothing lost.
I'll upload shortly.
