For GTK3 we just need to upload a new package version which is built to
use the GTK3 wxwidgets instead of the GTK2 one, and that will switch all
dependent packages.  There may be some issues due to bugs in wx GTK3
support to deal with as a result, but there's not any porting work as
such to do, unlike moving to wxpython4.0.

I suspect you'd struggle to get everyone onto wxpython4.0 by buster,
as there seem to be a lot of wxpython rdeps which aren't actively
maintained upstream (or in debian for that matter).  Some of these
probably deserve to be RMed, but some are probably actually useful
and without better maintained alternatives, which makes removal a
bit more contentious.
