[Git-dpm-user] git-dpm and dep-3

When using git-dpm how does one insure that one's patches
have dep-3 headers?

I have been editing my patch headers by hand, but if
I create a new patch with
git-dpm checkout-pached
commit
git-dpm update-patches

Old patch headers get wiped out.

Is there a way to do one's commit messages so that
the resulting patch headers will be dep-3?

Thank You
