And so I did, but playing with sysvinit didn't fix the problem.

So I added the ioctl in getty, rebuild/reboot, and voila!  Kiss my favourite
bug goodbye!  I'm uploading util-linux with the patch.

Guillem, when you're done with util-linux remember to:

 1) merge the ioctl/putenv hunk from the util-linux patch in repo.
 2) update such patch with your progress
