Hi all,
I am pleased to announced the avaibility of 5.4 kernels. Most of the
work has been done by Robert Edmonds, thanks to him.
Here is the most important changes:
- switch to a 5.4 kernel :)
- 4 flavours are now available: 486, 586, 686 and 686-smp
- the image packages are not "Essential: yes" anymore
The later change has some consequences. The fact that the kernel was
marked as essential, make the upgrade complex, having to answer "Yes, do
as I say" to apt. This is still the case when upgrading from a 5.3
kernel to a 5.4 kernel as the 5.3 kernel is marked as essential, but
that should be the last time.
Please also note that this changes allow to have a GNU/kFreeBSD chroot
without having a kernel installed inside the chroot.
I have just uploaded the new package, but as it is in unstable, it has
to be validated by the ftpmaster first, but that is very fast those
days. Meanwhile, you can fetch them from http://temp.aurel32.net
Bye,
Aurelien
