Mozilla 1.4.2 was recently released, and packages are being uploaded to
the gnome22 tonight. This is an important bugfix release, and contains
the most secure version of mozilla available (from the 1.4 series).
There is at least one known security bug that is fixed in 1.4.2 over the
recent upload of 1.4.1.
Unfortunately, epiphany-browser 1.0 will not compile against mozilla
1.4.2 (or 1.4.1 for that matter). 1.0.x versions of epiphany-browser
(not 1.0 in the backport) is very closely tied to gnome release cycles,
and the big problem here is that libxml2 2.6 is required, but it is not
backward compatible with libxml2 2.5.7 from the gnome22 backport, and is
known to break many gnome22 apps. As such, it is not possible to
upgrade epiphany-browser. I am willing to look at patches to
epiphany-browser to make it compile with mozilla 1.4.2, but am unable to
fix epiphany myself.
Basic testing shows that epiphany-browser will still run with mozilla
1.4.2, but I do not know how stable it is in this configuration. As
such, epiphany-browser is being removed from the backport, but an
unmaintained version will be kept in unmaintained/epiphany-browser-1.0.
Users of galeon are not affected, as galean 1.3.14 compiles fine with
mozilla 1.4.2.
