Hello,
Thanks to Diego for sharing the project and your insight.

Is it reproducible by other party?
Well, it's a different dimension. In a narrower sense, Gnuk is Free
Software, so it's not directly related to hardware.
I think that you are talking in wider sense, about physical entity,
namely, Gnuk Token.
It could be completely "open", when there will be an implementation of
MCU by free design which is compatible to STM32 (or KL27Z). I am
"open" to such an implementation (or others).
Actually, there are many free designs of CPU itself, other than
RISC-V. The problem is that it's not available as a hardware product
for users.
I'd like J2, the SuperH implementation, if we are talking about
architecture and free design of CPU. I don't need bank registers,
though.
If someone has (huge) budget to build a MCU for Gnuk, by free design
of J2 (that's my wish), I will happily port Gnuk and NeuG
*immediately*. Well, please include a simple ADC for the source of
noise, then.
I'm afraid that free design of SWD interface would be difficult
because of patents (just a guess, I don't know at all).
I'm curious about free design of flash ROM controller, especially
how protection feature is implemented.
