As a proprietary Un*x it is probably the best, and I've used and administered
(and sometimes cursed at) SunOS, Solaris, HP/UX, BSDI, NetBSD and Linux. The
chief disadvantage is the IBM lock-in and the associated costs. Software
subscription is about average for a corporate OS support contract, but the
really nice things like power management and the xlc high-performance
compiler do not come cheap on top of the per-core activation fee.

I have relatively little good to say about HP/UX though. There's a reason
they call it HP/SUX. 11 was somewhat improved, but 9 and 10.20 were just
abysmal by comparison and unfortunately that was the only OS our SIS vendor
at the time would support. (Running Informix, no less.)
