Package: helix-player
Version: 1.0.4-1sarge1
Severity: normal

On visiting http://www.wdr.de/tv/monitor/real.phtml with Mozilla
Firefox and clicking on "abspielen" (play), no movie is shown -
instead an error message box is presented:

"Component Missing

The player does not have the capabilities
to play back this content.

[Check for Updates...] [Details...]

[Help] [OK]"

Clicking on "Check for Updates..." leads to the page
http://www.real.com/linux, that promotes non-free software to
play the movie. One can download an i386 binary (no link to any
other platform nor source code) and that's it.

If helix-player cannot support the movie format, that's OK,
but a Debian package should not promote download non-free
software from a third party, IMHO. Plus: without any notice,
that this is not part of Debian, and that Debian cannot ensure
security for such software, etc.

Hi,

helix-player does not support realmedia *encoded* files, but supports
the realmedia *transport* protocols (hence the mime types etc in
helix-player for it). helix-player and real-player are two different
programs, although they share the same code base.

If you want to install real-player, get it from real.com or use premade
debian packages from debian-unofficial.org.
