Hi Graham,

i'm a new co-maintainer of this package. Bug reopened.

AFAICS from debian/changelog the {yp,nis,}domainname aliases were added and
then quickly removed in some versions a long time ago, while the NIS
functionality was still alive in the source code.

Reintroducing these names now isn't just a matter of coding (in particular,
fixing the 'domainname' alias as you noticed), but we still have to deal with
the name conflict from 'nis' package (see new #546753).

My proposal is to avoid dropping this behaviour from hostname. We could rather
provide these aliases through update-alternatives with priority lower than
those installed by nis.

If no one complain about this solution (co-maints, Michael?) I'm going to fix
this in the git repo.

Thanks,
