Slashdot/IBM: How To Speed Up Linux Booting

Hello Peter and *,

I have a Testmachine (AMD Athlon XP 3000+ with 3 Gbyte of memory
and a WD36 Raptor) where WinXP need around 87 seconds, Win2003
112 seconds and VistaUltimate 137 seconds to COLD start.

On the same machine, my Sarge (unsing 2.4.32) need 57 Seconds,
Etch 72 seconds and Sid between 70 and 100 seconds...

This all without any optimizations.

Debian GNU/Linux is definitivly faster.

Oh not to forget, the time is counted from a COLD start to the
WDM login dialog like under M$ Windows.

Thanks, Greetings and nice Day
