Package: linux-wlan-ng
Version: 0.2.4+svn20060414-3
Severity: important

Setting up linux-wlan-ng (0.2.4+svn20060414-5) ...
pcmciautils requires udev to be enabled
invoke-rc.d: initscript pcmciautils, action "reload" failed.
dpkg: error processing linux-wlan-ng (--configure):
subprocess post-installation script returned error exit status 1
dpkg: dependency problems prevent configuration of linux-wlan-ng-firmware:
 linux-wlan-ng-firmware depends on linux-wlan-ng (= 0.2.4+svn20060414-5); however:
Package linux-wlan-ng is not configured yet.
dpkg: error processing linux-wlan-ng-firmware (--configure):
 dependency problems - leaving unconfigured
Errors were encountered while processing:
 linux-wlan-ng
 linux-wlan-ng-firmware

Manual check ("invoke-rc.d pcmcia reload"):

# /etc/init.d/pcmciautils reload
pcmciautils requires udev to be enabled

The reason why it's failing here is that I'm upgrading the system in
a chroot where I don't have/want udev running. According to the
dependencies udev even isn't essential at all:

% apt-cache show pcmciautils | grep Recommends
Recommends: udev

And that's also stated in the changelog:

,---- [ /usr/share/doc/pcmciautils/changelog.Debian.gz ]
| pcmciautils (012-3) unstable; urgency=low
|
| * Don't depend on udev, only recommend it. This makes it possible for
| pcmcia-cs to depend on pcmciautils without requiring people to install
| udev. This makes upgrades smooth. udev also isn't strictly required,
| it's possible to use pcmciautils without it depending on the
| circumstances. Closes: #350182.
| * Added note about udev to the description also.

So it would be nice to be able to (at least) upgrade the package
even though udev isn't available/running.
