The ieee80211 has nothing to do with this, it's a different module. It
is needed as well though, and is loaded independently. Many (myself
included) were confused at one point and wrongly thought they did the
same, therefore it showed up in a Ubuntu patch some time ago.

The /proc file is created by p80211 AFAIK. What do you mean by link
only half of the driver?

Nowadays in Ubuntu this explicit loading of p80211 is not very useful
anyway, since this script gets triggered by the loading of prism2_usb
which depends on p80211...
