Yes it is possible.
I modified heavily the .lip code, so I know it's not very difficult. If
you want to have it coming, file a bug.
There is another question, what if we want to have a cross compiler (for
example to compile windows programs on unix) ? Then we could have target
:= "win32" on a unix computer.
